Share the News about Adult Day Services

Now is the perfect time for Tennessee’s Adult Day Services professionals to share our story.

As we gather for our annual conference we can and must use our stories to highlight the many benefits that Adult Day Services—or ADS—brings to our seniors, their families and surrounding communities.

I’m excited about the progress ADS has made across the U.S. and in Tennessee:

  • There are now more than 40 centers in the state allowing families to provide care for their loved ones in a way that meets their individual needs, and that number continues to grow.

  • As of 2016, more than 260,000 Americans use ADS to maintain their independence while accessing needed daily care.

  • Medicare can help seniors access ADS. While many private insurers do not yet offer coverage for ADS, we’re excited that the Tennesseans who need care the most are able to access it. Some Medicare Advantage plans are beginning to cover ADS, and more are planning to do so in 2020!

You can help ADS maintain progress in Tennessee by sharing our story, and our values, with local decision makers.

  • Step 1: Build a list of leaders in your community that should know about ADS like your city council member, mayor and chamber of commerce. Use tools like TN.gov to get started.

  • Step 2: Share a short message about ADS to highlight your expertise and benefits of ADS. Remember:

  • You are an ADS expert. Your elected officials may not know about ADS and may be grateful to have you on hand as a reliable resource.

  • Include a personal story. Leaders value helpful information, but stories can be easier to remember.

  • Include a call to action. Invite leaders to tour your facility, meet your seniors, follow your social media pages or sign up for your e-newsletter, for example.

  • Step 3: Share this blog post with your friends and colleagues.

Let’s work together to help adult day services grow in Tennessee. Share the ADS story with your local leaders today to share the great news, and what it means to you.
